I saw the bus drive away tonight.
Eu vi o ônibus ir embora hoje à noite.
My first thought was anger, but then I smiled.

I had no control over that moment.

But I could choose what came next.

So I started to walk along the road.

The air had the smell of wet leaves.

Each step felt like a small choice.

I noticed the lights in the windows.

People were having dinner without me.
As pessoas estavam jantando sem mim.
That thought made me feel less alone.

I arrived home later than planned.

But I was not upset at all.
