I saw the last leaf fall today.

It spun slowly, like a dancer saying goodbye.

The tree stands bare now, honest and open.

I think of my own losses this year.

A job ended, a friend moved away.

Each loss felt heavy, like that leaf falling.

But the tree doesn't hide its empty branches.
