Talking with a Parent: Honest but Kind

I had a parent meeting last week.

We talked about their child's progress.

I wanted to be honest but also kind.

So I shared both the good and the tricky.

The child reads well, but he rushes.

I said, 'He has great energy in class.'

Then I added, 'But he needs to slow down.'

The mother looked worried at first.

So I said, 'We are on the same team here.'

I told her, 'At home, it might help to practice pauses.'

She smiled and thanked me.

I felt good about that talk.
