I had to explain home care to an elderly man yesterday.
昨日、高齢の男性に在宅ケアの説明をしました。
He looked worried about forgetting everything.
彼は全部忘れてしまいそうで心配そうでした。
I said, "The three things to remember are: rest, water, and medicine."
「覚えておくことは三つです。休むこと、水分を取ること、薬を飲むこと」と言いました。
He nodded, but I could see he was still unsure.
彼はうなずきましたが、まだ不安そうでした。
So I asked, "Shall I write that down for you?"
だから「それを書いてあげましょうか？」と聞きました。
He smiled and said yes.
彼は笑顔で「はい」と言いました。
I wrote it in big letters on a card.
カードに大きな字で書きました。
Then I added: "If you notice a fever, call us."
それから「熱が出たら電話してください」と付け加えました。
He put the card on his fridge.
彼はカードを冷蔵庫に貼りました。
Later, his daughter called to thank me.
後日、彼の娘さんから感謝の電話がありました。
She said he remembered everything.
彼は全部覚えていたそうです。
I learned: keep it simple and write it down.
簡単にまとめて書いてあげることが大事だと学びました。
