I almost gave up on baking bread.

The first few tries were a mess.

The dough was too sticky or too dry.
A massa ficava muito pegajosa ou seca demais.
I felt like throwing the flour away.
Senti vontade de jogar a farinha fora.
But I kept trying, one more time.
Mas continuei tentando, mais uma vez.
Tonight I pulled a warm loaf from the oven.
Hoje à noite tirei um pão quentinho do forno.
The crust was golden and it smelled like home.
A casca estava dourada e cheirava a lar.
I cut a slice and butter melted slowly.
Cortei uma fatia e a manteiga derreteu devagar.
I realized I finished something I almost quit.
Percebi que terminei algo que quase abandonei.
It wasn't perfect, but it was mine.
Não estava perfeito, mas era meu.
That's enough for tonight.
