Tonight I keep thinking about the word no.
Esta noche no dejo de pensar en la palabra no.
I used to say yes just to feel useful.
Antes decía que sí solo para sentirme útil.
But yes piled up like boxes in a back room.

Each yes took a little piece of my day.

Yesterday a customer asked for a huge discount.

My first thought was to just say yes.

But I remembered my own limits.

I said, I cannot drop the price that much.

I offered a smaller discount and a smile.

The customer nodded and took the deal.

I felt proud, not guilty, for the first time.

Saying no kindly is a skill I am learning.
