I got my first paycheck yesterday.
Natanggap ko ang unang sweldo ko kahapon.
I stared at the number for a long time.
Tinagal ko ang tingin sa numero.
It was not a huge amount.
Hindi ito malaking halaga.
But it was mine.
Pero akin ito.
I worked every night shift for this.
Pinaghirapan ko ito sa bawat night shift.
I wanted to buy new shoes.
Gusto kong bumili ng bagong sapatos.
Instead, I sent half to my mother.
Sa halip, pinadala ko ang kalahati sa nanay ko.
She cried on the phone.
Umiyak siya sa telepono.
I felt proud and sad at the same time.
Nakaramdam ako ng pagmamalaki at lungkot.
I kept the rest in my drawer.
Itinago ko ang natira sa drawer ko.
This is just the beginning.
Simula pa lang ito.
I will save more next time.
Mas marami akong iipunin sa susunod.
